🟢 Module 1 — Foundations
What Jyotisha is, why we study it, and the big picture before any technical detail.
What is Jyotisha?
Jyotisha (ज्योतिष) means 'science of light' — the Vedanga that studies how celestial bodies reflect karma and time. It is one of the six limbs (Vedangas) of the Vedas, alongside grammar, phonetics, ritual, prosody, and etymology.
Time, Karma, Grahas
The grahas ('graspers' — planets) are not causes but indicators. Your karma ripens through time (kala), and the planets show the season. A jyotishi reads the chart not to predict fate but to see the texture of the time you were born into.
Three pillars you'll learn
Rasi (the 12 signs / zodiacal background), Nakshatra (the 27 lunar mansions), and Graha (the planets that move through them). Houses (Bhavas) rotate over the rasis based on your moment of birth. Together they form the natal chart.
What this app teaches
By the end you'll be able to read a chart longitude like '11 Cp 21'' and instantly know the sign, sign-lord, nakshatra, pada, and where it lands in the Navamsa (D-9). You'll know all 12 houses, their classifications, and the karakas of each graha.
