🟠 Module 5 — Bhavas (Houses)
The 12 houses, their meanings, and the classifications used in chart reading.
Bhava means 'state of being'
A house is not a sign and not a place — it is a domain of life experience. The 1st house is you-as-self, the 7th is you-as-partner, the 10th is you-in-the-world. Signs colour the house; planets activate it.
Kendra, Trikona, Upachaya, Trik, Maraka
Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) — Vishnu Sthanas, the angles, pillars of the chart. Trikonas (1, 5, 9) — Lakshmi Sthanas, the 'dharma triangle' of fortune. Upachayas (3, 6, 10, 11) — improve with time, effort, and perseverance. Trik / Dusthanas (6, 8, 12) — houses of friction, transformation, loss. Marakas (2, 7) — 'killers' in longevity analysis (the 12th from longevity-houses).
Purushartha groups
Dharma houses (1, 5, 9) — meaning and right action. Artha houses (2, 6, 10) — sustenance, work, wealth. Kama houses (3, 7, 11) — desire, relationships, gains. Moksha houses (4, 8, 12) — liberation, ending, transcendence.
Reading order
When a chart lands in front of you, look at four things in order: Lagna (1st house) and its lord; the Moon's sign and nakshatra; the Sun's sign; and finally the placements of the kendra/trikona lords. Don't try to read everything at once.
